Fifth and eighth grade students are competing for Student of the Year this year. Student of the Year is a competition for students with high grades and exceptional behavior. Teachers are the ones who decide who is eligible for it. The competition starts at your school, and each nominee has to create a portfolio with an autobiographical sketch, a list of things like academic rewards and leadership positions, and a picture. There is also an on-campus interview they have to attend and the day after that, a writing competition. All of this is done in the span of three weeks. Points for each part of the competition are added up and that is how the winner is chosen. The winner of the school competition gets to go onto regionals. It is a very exciting time for our school, and the winner will get to show off their school pride to the city. If you have a chance to compete for Student of the Year, I recommend that you go for it. It is a big honor to be nominated and an even bigger honor if you win. Congratulations nominees!
