Should students be held accountable for their grades in order to play sports?

I think students should be held accountable for their grades in order to play sports. Playing sports is a privilege for many students. It can be so unfair when students that are currently failing get to play in a game while the kids who are passing are riding the bench or barely getting played in. It shows true favoritism towards some players.

When you have good grades as an athlete, it shows responsibility of your academics and indicates that you can handle any task that is being thrown at you. As a student athlete myself, it can be very stressful to complete assignments on time and to balance my games and practices. I will say that staying on top of your grades does help benefit you in the long run whether you are a student athlete or not. But there are many things that you can do to stay on top of your grades like:

  • studying
  • asking friends or teacher for extra help
  • tutoring
  • asking more questions during instruction
  • doing homework and lessons when assigned
  • asking for extra practices on that subject

In the end, students should be accountable for having bad grades.
